Human powered internet with Pearltrees
November 24, 2009 by Kasia Zielińska

Pearltrees is a new site, which offers a very innovative way of organising links to favourite sites, interests and human connections. The concept is similar to that of mind maps - creating connections between subjects, and allowing whole interest trees to emerge. In this case, the process is not individual, but connected with the trees of other users, which leads to exchange, finding similar people and getting in touch.

And where did the name came from? The elements or links are put into the form of small spheres, or 'pearls'. Pearls can be connected, arranged in a shape of a tree, imported from somebody elses profile and added. Users can see which owners have the same pearls, and compare their trees, and most likely find something they might enjoy as well.
The aim of this site is similar to those of sites with bookmarks, and link collections - to gather the places which people really find interesting, to pave paths which are really taken by human users, and not created by internet systems. Also, this place might show what is really hot among the users right now. And this might work. In the case of Pearltrees, the idea is combined with a lovely design, which makes the site even more pleasant to use.
